Exco Levi
EXCO LEVI – or Wayne Ford Levy is the son of popular reggae artiste father artiste Michael Levy more popularly known as “Professor Wayne”. He was born into a family of talented people and as such grew with the love of music for which he has a natural aptitude.
Over the years Exco Levi has grown, impacting the music scene in Canada and around the globe. With a melodic style and delivery that can best be described as reggae meets Motown, Exco is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. He has since expanded his musical horizon by also learning to play the keyboard. Exco’s musical tastes include listening to and appreciating the lyricism and talent of Garnett Silk, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh and Sizzla kolonji. Through the work of these artistes he has been able to develop his own unique sound and a respect for the musical icons who have paved the way for him.
After making Canada his new home Exco Levi quickly took hold of the Canadian Reggae Music scene. His song writing skills strongly complimented his lyrical prowess and delivery. With songs such as the new anthem of Canadian immigrant’s anthem, “Oh Canada”, the nostalgic “Sweet Jamaica” and the love ballad “Same Ole Words”, Exco continues to show his range and musical intellect. He is now among the artistes being demanded for colourful collaborations. This as anything the artiste touches musically, like Midas turns to pure gold. It’s believed that Exco’s ability to quickly engage his audience and his knack for convincing makes him all the more appealing.
In Canada, Exco performs mostly solo or sometimes alongside top reggae bands. He is always willing to join with other up coming artistes to continuously build his and their talents.
Exco has is also able to record and perform audio engineering tasks in studio. This he credits to his time spent at the “Stinenam” and “Triple Platinum” Recording studios while living in Jamaica. There he had the privilege of working with the likes of other top Jamaican artists such as Terry Linen, Jah Mason and Silver Cat. This experience has no doubt influenced his approach to the music.
Among his numerous accolades Exco Levy also boasts working with some of the top DJs and promoters worldwide. He was the recipient of the Most Promising New Artist award in the Canadian Reggae Music Awards in 2007; he also received the award for Best Reggae Single for the song “Oh Canada”. Once again he received another award in 2008 in the Canadian Reggae Music Awards in 2008. His most recent award was received in 2009 for Best Male DJ by the RMAA.
Exco has also made impressive presentations on Jamaican festivals such as Curefest, Jamaica Day, and Jambana where Exco had more established singers fully engulfed in his performance. In 2009 Exco was priviledged to be a part of the RJR Communications all-island cross country tour in Jamaica. He was also was Exco has also graced the stages of many of those same artistes, and on each occasion has seen him leaving the crowd wanting for more. Exco Levi has a bright future ahead, as he anticipates doing more collaborations and making an even greater contribution to the music scene. He is currently working with DJ Robrack, one of Japan’s premier reggae DJs who is also working to release his first and long awaited album. His determination, performance style and technical skills are sure to garner him more accolades. If his current success is any indication Exco is indeed on his way to becoming a household name, and will remain synonymous with quality and passion for good music.
